Bonnie J. Maas

Bonnie J. Maas, age 78, of Dubuque, IA, completed her earthly journey suddenly on July 28, 2026, at home.  To honor Bonnie’s life, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the Church of the Nativity, 1225 Alta Vista St.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Bonnie’s family.

Bonnie was born on July 27, 1948, in Dubuque, IA, a daughter to Clyde and Deloras (Kersch) Burrows, Sr.  She was gifted with a caring and empathetic heart.  Bonnie eventually married her high school sweetheart, Terry Maas on January 7, 1967, in Galena, IL.  They were blessed with two children whom they raised with the same love they shared with one another for 56 wonderful years.  Terry was sadly called home ahead of her on June 21, 2023.

Bonnie spent the most recent part of her working career for Dubuque County.  She took great pride in sharing her time and talents and made countless friends along the way before eventually retiring from the courthouse in 2011.  Bonnie enjoyed her work and the people she met were always treated with respect.

In her free-time, Bonnie was an avid Cowboys and Yankees fan and in recent years even did her best to keep up with NASCAR so that she could share in knowledgeable conversations with her son, Terry.  She also made it a point to keep up with past co-workers and family with regular lunch and dinner dates on her weekly schedule.  A trip to the casino or bingo hall were also welcomed events when time allowed and someone to tag alongside was available.  But, for those who knew Bonnie best, it was time with her family by her side and the little things in life which truly brought her joy.  Never to be over excited about the big things which come and go, but understanding that the small moments were where life really was designed to thrive.

We are going to miss our dear Bonnie more than she could ever realize and our hearts break at the mere thought that our last conversation was surely going to be the last even though we didn’t understand that reality at the time.  Thank you, Bonnie for living a good and fruitful life and for leaving behind the finest example and legacy we could ask for.  May the Lord bless and keep you in His grace-filled arms until we all meet again.

and Tammy (Ken) Plowman, East Dubuque, IL;

her sisters-in-law,

Carol Bitz, OH,

and Kathy Burrows, Galena, IL;

along with numerous extended family, friends and neighbors.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 56 years, Terry R. Maas; and her siblings, Clyde “Jim” Burrows, Daniel Burrows, Judith (Ed) Rollinger and Timothy Burrows.

Bonnie’s family would like to thank the Dubuque Police Department, Dubuque Fire Department and EMS, along with the Dubuque Medical Examiner’s Office for all of their professional and compassionate care.
