Carlyle L. Olson

Carlyle L. Olson, age 77 of Sherrill, Iowa, completed his earthly journey on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at home, surrounded by his loving family.  To honor Carlyle’s life, his Celebration of Life for family and friends to gather and visit will be held on Monday, November 25, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Breitbach’s Country Dining, 563 Balltown Road, Balltown, Iowa.  Family and friends are also invited to visit from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at the Fawcett & Junker Funeral Home, 1476 West Broadway, Winona, Minnesota.  Carlyle’s memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home with burial following at the Bush Cemetery in Ridgeway, Minnesota, where full military honors will be accorded.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Carlyle’s family.

Carlyle was born on June 29, 1942 in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, 1 of 13 children to Hector Sr. and Ida (Selke) Olson.  He was united in marriage to Norma L. Stark on March 4, 1967.  Carlyle, was a bridge painter in their early years together until they finally settled in Dubuque to raise a family of their own.  A.Y. McDonald was his first job here, but he finally got on at John Deere Dubuque Works, where he devoted over 28 years of his time and talents as a Supervisor before retiring in 2001.

Carlyle enjoyed keeping busy in his free time and he also never passed up an opportunity to get outdoors and spend a few hours in the morning hunting deer, or even grabbing his favorite fishing pole and catching anything willing to bite on his hook that day.  Carlyle was also an avid collector of things, evidenced by his many beer steins.  If you needed anything which Carlyle could fix, offer or assist with, all you had to do was ask and watch him do what he did best; help.  We will miss his wonderful sense of humor, love for others (along with his stern finger pointing when necessary), and his Mr. Fix It ability, but we trust that we’ll see Carlyle again one day.  God bless and keep you safe in His loving arms Carlyle until we meet again and thank you for simply being you!
