Pete was born on September 16, 1935, in Cassville, WI, a son to Albert and Helen (Pendleton) Blum.  He grew up with an instinctual love for family, fellowshipping with friends, and treasured every opportunity he had to savor the best moments in life.  He eventually met his first love, Janet Jamison, and the couple was blessed with many wonderful years together, and 5 children along the way, until she was unfortunately called home in 2009.  Pete discovered love again and in 2011 was united in marriage to Eileen Schumacher, where he was blessed with another 10 years of endearing companionship.  Pete lived a full and abundant life and outside of his 29 years in the maintenance department at John Deere Dubuque Works, and his years as the owner of Grantland Auto Parts, cars were surely his passion.  He enjoyed riding in them, traveling in them, working on them, looking at them, and even raced them in his younger years.  Pete could tell you the year, make and model of any car simply by seeing the taillights or the front bumpers.  He also enjoyed fishing in the boundary waters from time to time along with hunting regularly in his youth, including anything from deer, to morels, to ginseng.  Pete was an avid storyteller as well and never met a stranger who wasn’t soon going to get his ear bent for the exact amount of time he had to spare at that moment.  It’s difficult to imagine a world without Pete moving forward.  His perfectly timed sense of humor (or so he thought), as well as his uninhibited ability to socialize anywhere he found himself always had the natural ability to brighten any day.  We are eternally grateful for the 86 years that the Lord saw fit to share Pete with us and pray that he now finds both peace and comfort from his earthly trials as we wait patiently to see him again one day.  Thank you, Pete, for teaching us to be continually grateful for the real blessings in life and may your legacy find itself weaved quite intricately throughout our lives moving forward.

One comment on “M. Paul “Pete” Blum
  1. Dean and Pam Johnson says:

Pete was friends with my dad, Ron Kjos, for as long as I can remember. In fact, Pete and Janet and their children got together with our family when we were growing up and we always had so much fun! Pete was a man of his word and and seemed to be gifted with a great memory for numbers. In his later years, we ran into him and Eileen at my Dad’s home. We spoke of my birthday and where we lived. Sure enough, I received a birthday card that year AND he and Eileen stopped by our home while vacationing “up north”! We all enjoyed Pete’s sense of humor and his smile!
