Shirley A. Winkler, age 89, of Lancaster, WI, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2022, at Grant Regional Hospital. She was born on August 1, 1932, in Liberty Township to Lester and Flossie (Latham) Martin. She married Harlan A. Winkler on August 20, 1957, and together they raised 7 children on their family farm east of Lancaster.
Shirley expressed her love through her cooking and her baking. She was a hard worker who took pride in all she did. Her hobbies included gardening, refinishing furniture, and embroidering. She loved caring for her flowers, our family pets, and had a great sense of humor.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harlan; son, Gregory Winkler; and her brother, Glen Martin, of Stitzer, WI.
Surviving are her 6 children, Joan (Anthony) Doheny, Eugene, OR, Kristin Winkler, Lancaster, WI, Jamie Shahidehpour, Naperville, IL, Brian Winkler and Kevin Winkler, both of Lancaster, WI, and Gina Winkler, East Dubuque, IL; her 5 grandchildren, Brittany MacGill, Adam Doheny, and Dustin, Ryan and Andrew Shahidehpour; her 2 great-grandchildren, Ian and Kate MacGill; and her sister, Rethel Schuppener, Stitzer, WI.

Shirley’s family wishes to extend their gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Lancaster Health Services, Lancaster EMS, and to the Grant Regional Hospital for their exceptional care and concern which they provided. I don’t know if my first condolence was not found. My name is Jane (Ellis) Rupp. My parents were Roger and Mary Ellis. I remember all the good times we had playing together. Our families would visit back and forth. Your mom always made the best lunches that any person could ever ask for. She was a very friendly and loving person you could always talk to her about everything. I know my brothers Jim and Jack remember us all getting together and the fun we had. I don’t know if the younger ones remember your mom or going to your place. Their names are Betty, Lisa, Joe and Sandy. May God Bless your families now and forever.
Hello family of Mrs. Shirley Winkler, I am so sorry to hear of her death. Whereas we will die eventually, it is still sad when it happens to all of us. When I met your family at the farmhouse, I thought, “this is a family I would like to know personally”, something like that. But, it was not to be. I felt I could not be a friend of Greg’s because he lived a wild lifestyle. And so it was that I could no longer have anything to do with ya’ll. That is ok as I honored Joan’s request to not have anything to do with her. I liked visiting with Mrs. Winkler when she was alive at the house in town. Howard Sanborn
