James E. “Jim” Lorence

James E. “Jim” Lorence, age 77, of Dubuque, IA, completed his earthly journey on November 20, 2025, at the Midwest Medical Center in Galena, IL. The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Jim’s family.

Jim was born on January 24, 1948, in Ottumwa, IA, the only son to Orval and Irene (VanWye) Lorence. He graduated from Ottumwa High School and attended Northeast Missouri State where he completed his bachelors of education degree. He was a good man who did his best to face each day as it presented itself.  Jim was naturally gifted in the mechanical skills department and found satisfaction in his working years primarily as a mechanic and eventually moving into the service manager position with Buckwalter Chevrolet in Washington, IA. After investing 29 years there he eventually decided it was time for a change and completed his final years working with Schnoebelen Implement in Riverside, IA, before moving into retirement permanently.  In 2013, Jim made the move to the Dubuque area to be closer to family and enjoy the rest of his years in peace.

Jim enjoyed spending time with the family of his second wife, Racheal Bartle, and helping with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved Sunshine Restaurant, reading a good action thriller, watching sports on tv, and going on car trips.  His superpowers were his kindness, atomic dad sneezes, and enjoying the driest of humor jokes. We are forever grateful for the memories he leaves behind and will seek comfort in them until we all meet again.  Thank you, Jim, for making the most of each day as you saw fit and may eternal peace be yours now.

Those left behind to cherish the memory of Jim include,

his two sons,

Troy (Anna) Lorence, Durango, IA,

and Trent Lorence, Coralville, IA;

his three grandchildren,

Luna (Nichole) Lorence, Redding, CA,

Maggie Lorence, Dubuque, IA,

and Jason Nichols, IA;

his first wife,

Karen Lorence, Platteville, WI;

along with numerous extended family, friends and neighbors.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Travis Lorence; and his second wife of over 10 years, Racheal Bartle.

Jim’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, Finley E.R., and Midwest Medical Center for all of their professional and compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Diabetes Society at Transforming Diabetes Care | American Diabetes Society would be appreciated.

    It is with sincere sympathy that we extend our condolences for your loss. We pray that you will find healing, comfort and peace through our Lord Jesus Christ who loves you beyond measure!
    Death is something we will all encounter and if we don’t make a decision now before we die, about giving our lives to Him, we will face serious consequences for rejecting Him and His love for us, after our departure from this world. Jesus paid a tremendous price for us by taking the wrath of God on the cross, on our behalf, for our sins and rebellion against God. God, being our Creator, sent Jesus, His Son, to lay down His life for us, so we would never have to face God’s eternal judgement once we leave this earth. Death is not the end for any of us. We will all live on, but where is determined by whether or not we surrender our lives to the Lordship of Jesus Christ who is the only way to God the Father and to our salvation from sin, death and destruction. Jesus is only a prayer away. A simple prayer like “Lord Jesus, I believe you are God’s Son who He sent to pay the price for my mistakes, sins, and rebellion against God. Please forgive me for all I have done in rebelling against you, Lord.
    I now give and surrender my life to you and ask that you be my Lord and Savior. Thank you for saving me from God’s eternal judgement and allowing me to now be a part of you and your royal family forever. In your name, I pray. Amen. ” God bless you and keep you always during this hour of your grief. I pray you will realize that you’re never alone when you’re in Christ Jesus. His Word guarantees us He will never leave or forsake us.
