Donald A. “Butch” Weiler

Donald A. “Butch” Weiler

Donald A.” Butch” Weiler, age 61, of Dubuque, IA, completed his earthly journey suddenly on May 20, 2025, at home after a 9-month courageous battle with cancer.  To honor Butch’s life, a private family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Butch’s family.

Butch was born on September 25, 1963, in Dubuque, IA, son to Robert A. and Margaret M. (Schneider) Weiler.  Butch could fondly recall many adventures of his childhood with his seven siblings while growing up in St. Catherine. He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1983. After graduation he joined Job Corp in Denison, IA. Butch had a great work ethic, he held two jobs for almost 40 years, one in the maintenance department at ARC and the other at Service Master. Butch was a proud member of the teamsters’ union.

Butch was an avid sports fan. You could find him any day sitting on his front porch with the antenna positioned just right catching a game of any sort, but he loved to watch football, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes! He was a creature of habit especially since his “early retirement”, never missing an episode of his favorite show, The Big Bang Theory, or his Nightly News with David Muir. Butch also loved to tune in and ride along with the storm chasers. Although we needed to remind him that if the show ever got to close to Dubuque he better get to the basement.  He was a self-proclaimed grill master and loved to find new recipes on-line to try out. Butch had quit the sweet tooth and always had a “treat corner” fully stocked with his favorites which included anything chocolate, brownies and cupcakes.

He was a quiet, calm, simple and kind man who was always willing to help when he could, never complaining. Butch had an easy going, laid back personality that allowed him not to sweat the small stuff, even when the small stuff was big stuff.  He took pride in all of his accomplishments.  His personality was a gift to all of us and a reminder to be present in the moment and enjoy the loved ones around us.  He also showed courage in the way he fought for his life, never giving up and always saw the positive things in everything and everyone.  Butch will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.
