David O. Schroeder

David O. Schroeder, age 70, of Dubuque, IA, completed his earthly journey on  April 19, 2024, at home, while surrounded by his loving family.  To honor David’s life, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Maquoketa, IA.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving David’s family.

David was born on August 23, 1953, in Maquoketa, IA, one of three sons to Asher and Catherine (Seeberger) Schroeder.  He made adventure a priority in his life early on and eventually found himself working in the culinary arts as a chef in both New Orleans, LA, and Deer Valley, UT.  He was well known for his skills and enjoyed every new offering he perfected.  David spent the remainder of his working years as a registered nurse and found great pride in helping to take care of his father in his later years, and most recently worked at Mount St. Francis until his retirement in 2019 finally arrived.

David was an artist by trade in his free-time and created many works of art in a variety of mediums over the years.  Many of his acrylic paintings adorn the walls of family and friends to this day and remain as a cherish memory of David’s time and talents on display for all to enjoy.  David was also an animal lover and his cats were treated like royalty every day.  His devotion to all of God’s creation never wavered and David did his very best to spread love wherever he found himself.  David enjoyed gardening as well and was an avid collector of antique clocks and anything eclectic.  His taste were unique and always spot on.  It’s going to be difficult to face the days ahead without David’s positive force moving among us in so many ways.  Thank you, David, for leaving behind a legacy of love for all who knew and loved you to treasure until we see you again.

Those left behind to cherish the memory of David include,

his two brothers,

John (Karen) Schroeder, Sigourney, IA,

and William (Sally) Schroeder, Ankeny, IA;

    Great condolences and sympathy to Dave’s family and friends, especially Jacque. Working with Dave was always fun, he always had a story to share and advice to give. He lead with his heart, using his vast amount of empathy and compassion to serve his patients as a nurse. He always went above and beyond to care for each Sister he looked after, as well as his coworkers. He was kind, generous, funny, and wicked talented! We often bonded over our love of creating food. He has been missed since his retirement, and now forevermore as he completed this journey and embarks on his next adventure.

    Dear David’s family, I last worked with Dave about 6 years ago at the Clare House on the evening shift. It was always a better night when he was working. Dave was such a great guy, always positive, professional, kind and caring. I’m so grateful I had the opportunity to work with him. On our supper breaks, Dave would share about taking care of your Dad and what he was doing if it was his weekend off. He would get so excited telling me about your upcoming visits and the feast he was preparing to make! He always packed his lunch when he worked and he made the best looking gourmet ham sandwiches! I ran into Dave at the grocery store a couple of years ago. I was so happy to hear that he had retired and that he was still cooking! I love the photo of Dave on the water and that’s how I will remember him. I am so sorry for your loss. RIP Dave, you will be missed.
    With my deepest sympathy, Colleen Venter RN
