Dr. Dale L. Lonning

Dr. Dale L. Lonning, age 52, of Dubuque, IA, completed his earthly journey on January 15, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics while surrounded by his loving family.  To honor Dale’s life, a private service is being held at Grand View Methodist Church.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Dale’s family.

Dale was born on November 22, 1971, in Waukon, IA, the youngest son of Frank and Revelyn (Robey) Lonning.  He was raised with a strong work ethic and a kind and generous spirit. Dale earned his Bachelor’s degree from Simpson College and completed his Doctorate in Chiropractic at Palmer College before he and his wife, Danielle Heck-Lonning, moved to Dubuque to begin their careers and start a family.  Danielle was sadly called home ahead of Dale on April 12, 2019 – If there is any peace to be found it’s simply that he and Danielle are now reunited again for all of eternity.

Dale took great pride in his work, but he also appreciated that to experience true joy in this life, there must be balance.  His generosity made the world a better place and his sense of humor could brighten any room.  In his free-time, Dale looked forward to football season and was always ready to watch his Hawkeye’s play.  Dale was gifted with a strong intellect which afforded him the ability to recall endless facts on a wide array of subjects at a moment’s notice.  If there was ever a perfect member to be present on any trivia team, Dale would have always been the ringer.  It’s difficult to imagine moving forward without Dale and Danielle walking among us.  Our hearts could not possibly be heavier and more broken than we find them today, but we pray that we will find peace in time in the abundance of wonderful memories he leaves behind.

We have many fond memories of Dale (&Danielle) from the days especially when our girls were younger…as co-soccer parents on the sidelines to developing friendships that will be remembered always. Thank you Dale for your humor and kindness and the memories. So very sad that you have left us so soon, but find peace in that you and and Danielle are together. Sending prayers, condolences and love to the family. – Ana, Kevin, Elena, Garret and Zach Kapparos

We extend our sympathy, prayers and love to Dale’s family. I attended church with Dale as a youth, graduated a year behind him from Waukon High School and attended Simpson College with him and carpooled there/back with him a handful of times. May God’s love and the love and support of family and friends get you all through this very difficult time. Cherish the memories!

As a patient of Dr. Lonning’s, he always did great taking care of my pain issues. It was always a treat to see him and spend some time with him. From the interactions that I had with him you could tell how much his wife and family meant to him! What a wonderful person – deepest condolences.

Dale and I would always argue (discuss)college football. Who was better Iowa, Iowa State or UGA (GEORGIA)
Of course it was UGA. I will truly miss his smile and the fact that he called me The Dude.
