Jean “Jeannie” M. Grimes

Jean “Jeannie” M. Grimes

Jean “Jeannie” M. Grimes, age 93, of Dubuque, IA, completed her earthly journey on October 25, 2024, at UnityPoint-Finley Hospital, while surrounded by her loving family.  To honor Jean’s life, a private family service is being held.  Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery at a later date.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Jean’s family.

Jean was born on May 23, 1931, in Dubuque, IA, a daughter to John C. and Calista (Murphy) Bakey.  She attended St. Joe’s Academy and eventually met the love of her life, Daniel B. Grimes who had originated from St. Louis.  Jean and Daniel were blessed with many wonderful years together and were a blessing to others as well.  They were foster parents to over 48 foster children along the way and their love and devotion, not only to their daughter, Kelly Jo, but to so many other children out there has truly left a legacy of love which lives on strongly in numerous lives still to this day.

Jean was a hostess at Yen Ching for over 20 years and enjoyed meeting and making many friends along the way.  She eventually retired in 1973 which left her with a little more free-time to spend doing what she loved most, baking in the kitchen.  Jean was well-known for her zucchini bread, divinity and Christmas cookies, but everything she creating in the kitchen was truly an experience to remember.  Jean also enjoyed the challenge of working on puzzles whenever possible and thankfully rarely met one she couldn’t beat in the end.  Jean was a force for good in the world around her and her absence will surely be felt by all who knew and loved her.  Thank you, Jean, for sharing your love and light with the world around you continually and may the Lord now keep you and bless you in His loving arms until we all meet again.

Kelly, I am so sorry for your loss. I have thought about you and Jeannue over the years wondering how you are doing. I have so many great memories of the time I spent at your house when we were growing up and even years ago when I would go see Jeannie before she had moved to Arizona with you.
    Love & hugs to you.
    Theresa
