Jean R. Schwendinger

Jean R. Schwendinger, age 79 of Dubuque, Iowa, completed her earthly journey on April 2, 2020 at ManorCare Health Services in Dubuque.  To honor Jean’s life, a private family service is being held.  Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Jean’s family.

Jean was born on March 16, 1941, in Dubuque, Iowa, one of 9 children to Raymand and Marie (Hahn) Manahl.  She spent her formative years surrounded by family and friends and would embrace their importance in her daily life throughout her 79 years.  She eventually found her true-love, John J. Schwendinger, and the two were united in marriage on July 30, 1960, and, in time, blessed with 3 children of their own.  They faced the world together as a united front and the love that they shared continues to be found within the generation who now follow their lead.  Jean did spend about a decade of her time outside of the home working in the housekeeping department at the Dubuque Greyhound Park and Casino.  She was a devoted and faithful worker, but would openly admit that her favorite hours there where definitely when she was off the clock.

Jean lived a full and abundant life.  She was always cheering on her St. Louis Cardinals during the baseball season, but in between games was also perfectly content to sit down at the table to show off her card playing skills, or even to simply relax with her beloved dog, Spunky, by her side.  But, undeniably, Jean’s greatest joy in this life was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Going on vacations with them when they were young has left everyone with an abundance of wonderful memories to treasure and her unwavering devotion to each and every one of them made Jean the kind of grandma everyone dreams of having in their lives.  We will miss our humble and beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, but we sadly accept that the Lord has greater things instore for her now.  We will proudly carry on her legacy as we remain behind and trust that when we see her again, she will surely have kept herself in good company with her parents and siblings while waiting patiently for our arrival.  Thank you, Jean, for everything that you’ve taught us through your words, thoughts and actions and may we slowly discover peace in the understanding that we were confidently entrusted into your arms as we began our journey’s here also.
