Lydia Zaya

Lydia Zaya, age 91, of Galena, IL, completed her earthly journey on December 6, 2024, at the Galena Stauss Senior Care Community.  To honor Lydia’s life, a private family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  Burial will be in the Prospect Hill Cemetery in Galena, IL.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Lydia’s family.

Lydia was born on July 28, 1933, in Lombard, IL, a daughter to David and Shalim (Tamras) Zaya.  She was a talented woman with a reserved nature, which fit perfectly as she devoted over 40 years at Sears & Roebuck in their administration department.  Lydia took great pride in her accomplishments and valued the friendships she made along the way.  Upon retirement, Lydia was blessed to make her way to the Galena area where she enjoyed a permanent vacation-like status and enjoyed the fruits of her labors.

In her free-time, Lydia always enjoyed a little horseback riding whenever possible and spent countless hours throughout her life savoring time in the saddle and caring for her favorite horses.  Lydia also donated numerous hours of her time and talents at the Mines of Spain and continually found great joy in her time spent in God’s creation.  We are forever grateful for the 91 years the Lord was gracious enough to share Lydia’s love and light with those around her and will treasure every memory she leaves behind now.  Thank you, Lydia, for simply being you each and every day and may the grace and mercy of our Lord and Savior keep you safely held in His loving arms until we all meet again.

Those left to cherish the memory of Lydia include,

her sister,

Julia Zaya-Faber, Galena, IL;

along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, and neighbors.

Lydia was preceded in death by her parents; 2 siblings, William “Bill” Zaya and Mary (Richard “Dick”) Barnes; and her brother-in-law, Norman Faber.

Lydia’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Galena Stauss Community and Hospice of Dubuque for all of their professional and compassionate care.
