Peggy was born on June 29th, 1932 in Dubuque and was a proud graduate of the Immaculate Conception High School, where she made lifetime friends. Peggy loved living in Dubuque. Her highest compliment when visiting other places in the world was, “This is almost as nice as Iowa.”

Peggy married Tom Brewer at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on April 26, 1952. They recently celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary.

While raising their 7 children, Peggy and Tom were avid Square Dancers and enjoyed Round (Ballroom) Dancing. Peggy and Tom shared their love of dancing, music, and the performing arts with their children. Peggy loved to sing and knew the lyrics to most of the Great American Songbook.

Peggy was a proficient baker and was known by the neighborhood kids as always having homemade cookies in her cookie jar. She taught crochet and her beautiful, crocheted afghans were cherished gifts.

Her beloved husband Tom and being with her extended family were her top priorities. She loved family gatherings, was the life of the party and the last to leave. Peggy had a ready laugh, a twinkle in her eye and a sense of fun. Her children could count on her wise counsel and sharp wit. She will be missed.

Survivors include her beloved husband, Tom; her seven children, Gerilyn (Henry Mueller) Brewer, Cindy Widmar, Bill (Gina) Brewer, Patti (Maurice) Finn, Susan Brewer, Tom (Sue) Brewer, Steve (Kim) Brewer; her 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great Grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Lucille & George Altman, her sister Joan (Clem) Keoperick, her brothers Jack (Sylvia) Altman and Dick (Gloria) Altman and her son-in-law Maurice (Patti) Finn.

Peggy’s family graciously thanks the Oak Park Place and Hospice of Dubuque staff for their extraordinary care. Your loving kindness, empathy and compassion supported us all and warmed our hearts.

She will be missed so much. I will miss her smile and how much she loved my tops at work. She was an amazing person.

Peggy, you were an angel when you joined us in Evansville. As busy as you were with all of your kids, your tending to your brother and his kids during their accident was definitely an angel in disguise for me. I’ll never forget you asking how I knew to pick fresh groceries in the vegetable section of the super market. I’m glad we got to know each other the short time you could spend with us. What a magnificent family you and Tom molded. How beautiful to see the love between you two even stronger during these last years. What Blessings! Love you, Judy Osterhaus
