Norbert J. “Norb” Steger

Norbert J. “Norb” Steger, age 88, of Dubuque, IA, completed his earthly journey on December 27, 2023, at the Midwest Medical Center in Galena while surrounded by his loving family.  To honor Norb’s life, his Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2024, from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Dubuque American Legion Hall Post 6, 1306 Delhi Street in Dubuque.  Family and friends are invited to join in fellowship and sharing in the abundance of memories which Norb leaves behind.  Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. prior to the Celebration of Life at Dubuque Memorial Gardens Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Norb’s family.

Norb was born on November 9, 1935, in Dyersville, IA, a son to Anton and Rose (Tierschel) Steger.  He was a genuinely kind soul who took great pride in being a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather as well.  Norb honorably served his country with the U.S. Army and once his service was complete, was united in marriage to the love of his life, Diane Faust.  They were blessed with many wonderful years together before she was sadly called home ahead of him in 2003.  Norb spent his working years providing for his family as a printing press operator.  Over the years he had faithfully invested his time and talents with the Telegraph Herald, Telegraphics, Schuster Printing, and finally with Union-Hoermann before moving into retirement in 2000.  Norb took great pride in his work and made many friends along the way.

In his free-time, Norb was a loyal Green Bay Packers fan who always rooted for his team every time they took the field.  When he had a little extra time on his hands you could easily find Norb working on his latest puzzles, especially his favorite 3D versions, and in-between puzzles, Norb was quite fond of working on genealogy and tracing his families legacy throughout the earlier generations.  Norb thrived on seeing the brighter side of life no matter what each day held in store for him.  His happy-go-lucky attitude carried him through many of life’s struggles only to find even more peace on the other side more often than not.  It’s hard to imagine facing the days ahead without Norb’s positive presence right beside us, but we know that he has fought the good fight and now thankfully finds rest from his health battles.  Thank you, Norb, for always bringing your best to the table, for leading without hesitation, and for reminding us daily that life is 10% what happens to us, and 90% how we react.  May the Lord keep you and Mom safe in His loving arms until we see you both again.
