Pastor Sue Ann Cubbage

Pastor Sue Ann Cubbage, age 77, of Dubuque, IA, completed her earthly journey on April 9, 2024, at home while surrounded by her loving friends.  To honor Sue’s life, a memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at the Center Grove Methodist Church, 3140 Brunskill Road in Dubuque, with Pastor Nancy Sutherland officiating.  Family and friends are invited to join in fellowship from 12:30–1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church and at the reception in the church basement following her burial in the Center Grove Methodist Church Cemetery.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Sue’s family.

Sue was born on April 25, 1946, in Louisville, KY, a daughter to Robert and Lucille (Parsons) Cubbage, Sr.  She was one of God’s unique creations where He surely broke the mold when He was done.  Sue’s love for her Creator, country and community were continually on display throughout her 77 years walking among us.  She honorably served her country with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and upon returning home began her journey into the Methodist Ministry and earned her Theology Degree.  She was a faithful pastor at congregations in Hayti, MO, Mt. Union, IA, and lastly with the Center Grove United Methodist Church in Dubuque.  While she was serving in Mt. Union, she also took the time to serve on the City Council to help make a difference on another level in the lives of those around her.  She was also a member of the Southeast Iowa Interagency Drug Task Force for some time and always found a way to be a positive force in every community where the Lord placed her.  Sue never backed down from an idea or challenge and when the opportunity to initiate and organize the first potato drop at Nativity Church came to mind, she was sure to run the project to its fruition.  Again, putting others needs before her own was an unwavering drive in Sue’s daily life and so many were touched by her determination who may have never even had the chance to meet her firsthand.

Sue knew how to enjoy the quiet moments in life as well.  Her affinity for European and French cuisine were never quenched and when time allowed, Sue could easily be found in the kitchen working on her next delicious presentation.  She also enjoyed playing the violin when the moment struck and her talents were undeniably enjoyed by many fortunate enough to be in the vicinity.  Sue was also a cat lover at heart and her favorite feline companions, Oscar and Allie, were truly two of the most spoiled and pampered pets on the planet; she was “Mama Sue”.  She was intentional about being the love and light in each day and discovered real satisfaction in knowing that other lives were blessed in the process as she simply faced each day being herself.  It’s difficult to imagine a world moving forward without Sue’s beautiful spirit leading the way.  We will miss her dearly, but find peace in knowing that she is now free from her earthly battles and rest in eternal perfection with her Lord and Savior.  Thank you, Sue, for never looking back and always looking forward to something better and may we all find inspiration in our own lives as we seek peace in the legacy you leave behind today.  May the Lord bless you and keep you safe in His loving arms until we all meet again.
