Patrick W. “Pat” Gabriel

Patrick W. “Pat” Gabriel, age 79, of Dubuque IA, and Estero, FL, completed his earthly journey suddenly on June 19, 2025, at UnityPoint Finley Hospital in Dubuque while surrounded by his loving family.  To honor Pat’s life, a Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at the Church of the Resurrection, 4300 Asbury Road in Dubuque, with Rev. Phil Gibbs officiating.  Family and friends are invited to join in fellowship for one hour prior to the service at the church.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Pat’s family.

Pat was born on March 17, 1946, in Dubuque, IA, a son to Leon “Barney” and Beatrice (Kranich) Gabriel.  He loved his family, embraced his friends, and enjoyed each day he was given.  He met and married the love of his life, Mary Duehr, on August 27, 1966, and the two were blessed with 58 wonderful years together and three children.  Pat graduated from Wahlert High School in 1964 and then earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Northern Iowa, where he was also a member of the varsity basketball team. He went on to work as Supervisor at John Deere Dubuque Works until he retired in 2001. Pat eagerly moved into the retirement stage of life where he and Mary began making their new life in Florida.

Pat and Mary have been members at Thunder Hills Golf Club for over 50 years and were avid golfers. Pat was blessed to make countless friendship along the way in both Dubuque and Florida. Pat was a very talented woodworker as well, and many of the meticulously designed pieces of furniture are still enjoyed by his family and friends.  It’s beyond heart-breaking to lose Pat so suddenly.  So many plans that we had moving forward seem so distant now that he’s gone.  We can only hope for the Lord to comfort our hearts and minds as Pat now begins his eternal journey. Thank you, Pat, for being the best husband, father, and grandfather anyone could ask for, and may peace be yours until we all meet again.
