Paul Richard Reisen, Jr.

Paul Richard Reisen Jr. 56 of Freeport, Illinois passed away Friday, February 16, 2024.  A private family service will be held at a later date where full military honors will be accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps League. 

Paul was born May 19, 1967, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Paul Sr. and Karen (Droessler) Reisen.  He graduated from East Dubuque High School in 1985.  He then enlisted in the United States Marine Corp.  He completed basic training at Camp Pendleton, California and was then stationed at Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii with several deployments during his military career.  After his military service ended he used his GI Bill to attend Highland Community College in Freeport, Illinois and became a Registered Nurse.  He worked at Singer Mental Health in Rockford, IL and at other nursing homes in the Freeport, Illinois area.  During that time he married Tracie (Belken) Diddens and together they had two children: Tanner and Breanna.

Paul had an infectious giggle and loved to tease anyone for a laugh.  He loved to go fishing, to watch or listen to the Chicago White Sox and to tell every Chicago Cubs fan that the Sox were a better team.  He also was a Pittsburgh Penguins fan and loved to tease his siblings that are Chicago Blackhawk fans.  Tanner and Breanna’s favorite memories of childhood with their dad were camp-outs in the living room, trips to Krape Park and watching Comedy Central together, and taking joy rides in the Mustang convertible.

He is survived by his children Tanner (Lexie) of Dubuque, Iowa and their children Benjamin, Ellie, with a new baby on the way and Breanna (Christian) of Holland, MI, his dad Paul Reisen Sr. of East Dubuque, IL, William “Bill” (recently deceased) (Kara) of East Dubuque and their children Nolan, Cassandra (Mathew), Anna and Natalie, Jody (Jim) of East Dubuque, IL and their children Paulina (Kenny) and their daughter Piper, Andy (Mariah), Jason “Jake” (Beckie) of Roy, UT and their children Zoey (Joshua) and their daughter Clara, and Beau, Bryan “B” Reisen (Amy) of Fayetteville, GA and their children Ashley, Alyssa, Cole, Avery, Carter, Gerry Lou (Jestin) Sertle of East Dubuque, IL and their children Jestin Jr., Eben, Gavin, Aspen and Karin.

Paul is preceded in death by his mother Karen Reisen, his grandparents William and Pauline Reisen and grandparents Jerry and Luetta Droessler.  Joined with his brother William (Bill) Reisen

  1. Our world is less today because Paul is no longer with us. I truly believe there was a tremendous celebrations when he reached the gates of heaven. They are all celebrating up there when we are so sad for our loss down here. Our condolences for his children and their children and all of Paul’s siblings, spouses and their children. Our deepest sympathy to his father Paul.

    I have known Paul and have worked with him at the nursing home for over 30 years. He was a great guy. He will always be remembered by his sense of humor and laugh. My Condolences to his children and family.
