Robert W. “Bob” Berning

Robert W. “Bob” Berning, age 67, of Galena, IL,  was called home to the loving arms of his Lord and Savior on June 12, 2022, at home while surrounded by his loving family.  To honor Bob’s life, a private family graveside service will be held at Casper Creek Natural Cemetery in Galena, IL.  The Tri-State Cremation Center is humbly serving Bob’s family.

Bob was born on February 1, 1955, in Cuba City, WI, a son to Harry and Joan (Peacock) Berning.  He grew up on the family dairy farm and would continue the tradition with his own family as the years progressed.  Bob has been blessed to own multiple farms over the years and found great satisfaction in not only establishing them to his own unique state of perfection, but also through the ability to give God the glory by providing food for his family and nation.  Bob was united to his soul-mate, Mary Sproule, on October 27, 1973, and the couple was also blessed with three daughters of their own.  Bob was an owner/operator with his company, Horsecents Transportation, and thoroughly enjoyed all 38 years that he was able to travel the country while providing for his family.  He was even blessed to take them on many trips around the states and share with them the wonders of God’s country which he witnessed on a regular basis.  He was well known to possess the sharpest looking semis around and was never timid about generously sharing his experience and wisdom with his fellow truckers.  Bob was an avid outdoorsman at heart and when he wasn’t navigating his 18-wheeler down the highways, you could easily find him out on the boat with a fishing pole in hand, or showing off his uniquely talented water-skiing skills.  He also enjoyed venturing in the woods on a crisp morning in search of the next big buck, riding and relaxing on the open road on his motorcycle, and spending a little time on horseback when time allowed.  But, Bob’s love for hard work and the outdoors always came in second to his love for his family and his Creator.  His priorities in life were abundantly clear to all who knew and loved him and if the opportunity arose to sit around the table with the grandkids for a few hands of cards, you could be sure that nothing was going to interfere with that moment and memory.  Bob was also a joyful servant and relentless witness to the loving grace offered to all of us through God’s Son, Jesus Christ.  Bob’s love for his fellow man and their eternal salvation was never in question and if he could be the salt and light in someone’s day, he was sure to complete the task at hand.  It’s difficult to envision the difficult days ahead without our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend physically present within them, but we will definitely hear and feel the confident wisdom of Bob’s legacy in all that we do moving forward.  Thank you, Bob, for always being the world’s best wheeler/dealer grounded in integrity and may the Lord keep you safe now in His loving hands until we meet again as you hear those words you’ve been waiting to hear for so many years; “Well done Thy good and faithful servant, Well Done!”

Mary, Becky, Carrie, and Alicia, Our hearts are broken at the loss of your husband and dad. Bob was a wonderful brother-in-law as well. Reading his obituary, brought back so many memories of water skiing with him at the lake and river. He will be missed immensely. Our love to you all. Earl and Karen
